New URL

Hey Everyone,

I've created a new blog and am going to shut this one down once I database the posts. The URL for the new blog is:

Put it in your favorites people. This is the last post for this blog.

Problem

Hi All,

I have a bit of a problem on my hands. As I used to post music on this blog (which I then removed because the traffic became out of control), it would appear that music search engines downloaded the music from here and use this blog as the reference for the songs. What that means is that while the music is gone, the traffic is still there. This has completely overloaded the amount of bandwidth that I'm permitted per month - it should be around 80% usage but it is currently at about 1000%. That's bad. It also means that I can't post much anymore, certainly not any photos.

Long story short, there doesn't appear to be a way to fix the problem, so it looks like I'm going to have to shut this site down and re-open with a new account and a new name. I haven't explored all of the options fully, but will let you know what I decide to do. Thanks, all, for showing up and I'll keep you updated.

P.S. This is newbie territory for me so if anyone can shine a light on the situation (ie offer a solution) let me know in the comments section or at andybush1@aol.com. For those who know my phone number, give me a call.

Good question, great answer.

Sun9I had a question about the new Superman movie which I couldn't quite figure out so I e-mailed Phat Jimmy for an answer (he knows his stuff) and his answer was great so I thought I'd post it.

I read in an article about the upcoming Superman Returns movie that he disappears for five years and spends some time visiting the ruins of Krypton. Wouldn't his powers be nullified there? Seems peculiar...

Phat Jimmy -

Great question! I think the ‘trip to Krypton’ thing isn’t a spoiler anymore; it seems to be out in the open. As for his powers…this is the source of some confusion. Theoretically Superman draws his power from our yellow sun and some of the unique gravity-based properties in being from Krypton. Yes, from all accounts, Kryptonians will have reduced powers in the presence of their red sun. I’m curious how he is going to visit Krypton, given that it blew up real good in the first Superman movie (which is being recognized as official cannon for this new movie).

Pretty much there’s no real ‘definite’ explanation. Even more confusing is the fact that the Golden Age/Earth-2 Superman (1938-the mid-1950’s) was originally weaker (leaping vs. flying, lack of some powers) than the Silver Age/Earth-1 Superman (the current one). Oh yeah, confusing stuff.

Here’s a really good article about the evolution of his powers…

And another about Superman’s powers in general…

Also, I spent about two hours reading about Superman and the DC Universe (Wikipedia is awesome but terribly distracting) after I got the email. Busy day.

Amazon switches from Google to Microsoft

Reuters reports that Amazon has changed dance partners for its A9 search engine, moving away from Google and now employing Microsoft to do the work. A9 Chief Executive David Tennenhouse told Reuters that Windows Live presented a "very interesting, powerful Web search option" that had previously been featured on the A9 site.

Senior product manager at Microsoft's MSN Internet unit, Justin Osmer, confirmed that Google's contract with Amazon.com had expired, but did not elaborate on what was behind the switch. "It's another opportunity to reach a new segment for us and get people acquainted with the Windows Live search brand," Osmer said.

While Google and Yahoo built up their search engines, making billions of dollars from ad revenue, Microsoft never really caught up. But it's their hope that they can do so with Windows Live and a new pay-per-click advertising system called adCenter. "We view this as more of a marathon than a sprint," said Osmer.

Movies, Movies, Movies!

Hi All,

Hope you had a nice weekend. I did. Here is some movie info:

Dvd_7 1) Here are the DVD releases for Tuesday, May 09, 2006

Big Momma's House 2

The Great Raid

Munich

Nanny McPhee

Thhppt.

2) There is a little (possibly Canadian, but not sure) indie flick that I want to see called "Hard Candy". If anyone out there has seen it I'd love to hear your thoughts. From what I understand it's a love it or hate it type deally.

3) Terry Gilliam is rumoured to direct the next installment of Harry Potter. This is a tough call as to whether to be excited or nervous. He made "Time Bandits" and "Brazil" which were wonderful and surreal, but then again he made "The Brothers Grimm" which was rubbish, and his most recent film. But if I had to make a call, I'd say it's a good thing.

The rumours may have been fuelled by an interview with Entertainment Weekly back in September, where Gilliam said, "I was reading the script as I was flying to Los Angeles for the Warner Bros meeting and thought, 'Oh, she's seen Time Bandits, she's seen Monty Python.'

"The terrible thing about it was during the course of the meeting, I started getting enthusiastic - I was even getting myself excited. I remember leaving the meeting, getting in my car and driving for about two hours along Mulholland Drive just so angry I'd allowed myself to get excited about it.

Evanalmightyhair 4) Here is a new pic of Steve Carell from the set of Evan Almighty. Can't wait.

'Aqua Teen' Looks to Conquer Big Screen

By Rick Porter

11:57 AM PT

How do you turn a series of shorts about anthropomorphic fast food into a feature film? The world may find out, possibly sometime in 2006. An "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" movie will be ready for release by then, say Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis, the show's creators.

"We wrote and recorded it last year, and it should be done by December," Maiellaro said Friday (March 4) at the Museum of Television & Radio's annual Paley Television Festival, prompting several "whoos" from the crowd of Adult Swim fans.

Maiellaro and Willis were on the panel with two other creative teams from Cartoon Network's freewheeling late-night lineup, Tim Heidecker and Matt Wareheim of "Tom Goes to the Mayor" and Matt Senreich and Seth Green of "Robot Chicken."Willis and Maiellaro didn't want to reveal too much about the "Aqua Teen" movie, but they did offer up a couple of tidbits. For one, it will feature 1980s funk outfit Cameo, of "Word Up" and "Shake Your Pants" fame. As for the plot, "It's an action piece that leads into an origin story that unfolds in a very 'Aqua Teen' way," Maiellaro says.

Willis and Maiellaro, who formerly worked on "Space Ghost Coast to Coast," also talked about the origins of the show. They first came into being as the mascots for a fast-food place where Space Ghost buys a huge amount of food. But because "he has no idea what money is," Willis says, he's forced to bring the mascots onto his show. The characters who would become Frylock, Master Shake and Meatwad then take over the show.

Cartoon Network initially rejected the idea, but Maiellaro and Willis took the characters into their own world, and the rest is Adult Swim history. They eventually finished the "Space Ghost Coast to Coast" episode as well, and it aired in 2003.

Willis and Maiellaro aren't sure yet when or how their movie will be distributed, but given their corporate parents, they're not worried.

"You would think at Time Warner, someone's got to know how to release a movie," Willis says.
